It can become very straining on the eyes, if the eyes have to register so many details. Postat inițial de NoSuchKirbyException:The big reason for clean textures is because when you're playing a fast paced shooter. They could have at least allowed modders to use the textures they had already made and add new ones. I found it unfortunate and have not played since the new style kicked in :(. It is a major factor in if a player passes or not now-a-days even.
As stated above as well new graphics made people upgrade hardware in the past that were FPS players(Doom, to Quake, to Quake 2, etc). I liked the old graphics style and bought it for that style. Well the graphics appealed to me a "FPS enthusiast" as it would many others(think about those waiting for a new CoD game comparing graphics to the previous game lol).
The game just has to look good enough so people will be willing to try it out, but ultimately those aren't even the settings most will use. I don't believe the average arena FPS enthusiast cares enough about graphics to warrant putting in such work. Postat inițial de ɪʀᴀᴛᴇ Qʟ ᴩʟᴀyᴇʀ:Aside from the obvious fact that it is easier and faster to make lower poly models and flat textures, it is also important to cater to the right audience. I think it's not hard to see which option is better. Either do AAA grade visuals where making all weapon models alone takes one year of development and thus game is ready in like 2025, or skip the high visuals for now and the game being completed actually within ~2016. Reflex development studio Turbo Pixel Studios consisting of only 3 guys.
Reflex's engine has the potential to make some really great looking games while keeping a decent 100FPS avg. I don't see the need for this bland, simplistic approach in the GFX department. These days, a 2-3 year old video card still gives to play the latest games in 60+fps. Postat inițial de Butane:Apparently sharp looking graphics are not important in competitive arena FPS nowadays and are even shunned upon even though the pioneering arena FPS games of the 90's were always pushing forward and setting the standard higher with every release.Įvery single FPS in the late 90's and early 00's had better graphics than the previous released titles and often people had no choice but to buy new hardware to be able to play the latest releases.
